TIP 4: DON'T TREAT YOUR PROPERTY LIKE A MODERN ONE

The key to a healthy environment in a traditional building is adequate ventilation. Nearly all issues are caused by inappropriate modern interventions, many of which are unnecessary. The theme running through this tips and myths section is to allow breathability in traditional buildings, to enable the buildings to function as they were intended to.

Modern living has created a need for appliances which produce vast quantities of water; washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, showers, etc. If this water and moisture has nowhere to go through a lack of ventilation, condensation will form which in turn provides the breeding ground for mould.

Those who live in traditional buildings often do so because of the character and features associated, so there needs to be an acceptance that they shouldn’t be altered or compromised to today’s construction needs.
